‘SNL’ welcomes black female cast member

CNN’s Don Lemon talks to Sheryl Underwood about “Saturday Night Live” hiring its newest black female cast member.

Community Village‘s insight:

And Native Americans, and Persians need to be added to the cast. (the CNN video mentions Asians).

There’s always some white person trying to defend hiring only white people. He’s trying to say that only white people had the talent.

CNN turns story of murder into a “feel good” story

I’m calling out male violence when I see it. Male violence is a huge problem in our society.

This story does no justice to the wife who was murdered. I would think she would want media to call out men on their violence?

CNN dropped the ball on this one. They turned the story upside down. Instead of talking about male aggression, they talk about how great technology is and almost make the murderer out to be a hero because his wife’s organs went to seven other people. Wow. This CNN coverage is male privilege and patriarchy at it’s worst.

Father throws son off high-rise – CNN.com Video

A man in the midst of a bitter custody battle threw his son off a Manhattan high-rise before jumping to his own death.

Community Village‘s insight:

I hear stories every year about men who take vengance out on their own family.

How do we best teach men that they don’t have the right to murder?

“The Durham Police Department says Huerta died on November 19 from a self-inflicted gunshot while handcuffed in the back of a police cruiser.”

Community Village‘s insight:

A similar incident happened to Chavis Carter a 21-year old American male who was found dead from a gunshot while handcuffed in the back of a police patrol car on July 29, 2012

The police car’s recording device in the Carter case had “problems” and didn’t record the sound just before and at the time of the shooting.

Family of Georgia student suspended for teacher hug files appeal

The family of a Georgia student suspended for the school year for hugging a teacher has filed an appeal with the school board, the teen’s mother tells CNN.

Community Village‘s insight:

In his senior year of high school, he is suspended for a year.

He did not deserve a suspension for this. However, he should have simply been told that some people don’t like hugs. If he was in a Latin country, this would be less of an issue. It’s common to kiss on the cheek as a greeting in Mexico for example.
