“It’s a Disgrace” Even U.S. Congressmen are Disgusted with the Grand Jury Decision in Garner Case [VIDEO]

New York, N.Y. – A U.S. congressional delegation of Congressmen from New York, representing a broad cross section of ethnicity, held a press conference to express their absolute disgust with the grand jury decision to not indict anyone in the killing of Eric Garner.

“The decision by a grand jury not to indict in the death of Eric Garner is a miscarriage of justice. It’s an outrage, it’s a disgrace, it’s a blow to our democracy and it should shock the conscience of every single American who cares about justice and fair play,” said Rep. Hakeem Jeffries.

Social media has proven that racists are rampant in the U.S.

Even with running the blog OppressionMonitor.us I was still shocked and sickened to see this video of White people harassing Black people who are standing up about being LYNCHED by thug cops.

nation of immigrants

President Obama

President Obama

His words do not apply to about 40% of the nation:

  • Not to Native Americans who were wiped out or driven west.
  • Nor to Black Americans who arrived in chains.
  • Nor to Chinese Americans who were killed or driven out of the western US in the late 1800s.
  • Nor to Mexican Americans deported in the 1930s.
  • Nor to the people whose lands the US took over: Native Americans,Northern Mexicans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Puerto Ricans, Guamanians, Palauans, Eastern Samoans, Northern Mariana Islanders or Virgin Islanders.
  • Nor, given the perpetual foreigner stereotype, to Asian Americans.
  • Nor to most British or Dutch Americans, who were not immigrants (people who move to a foreign country) but colonists (people who create an offshoot of their mother country). Calling them “immigrants” would mean they joined Native American societies. They were conquerors and invaders, not “immigrants”.

All this is why I study the changing policies if (im)migration law. In a country that preaches Freedom and Liberty, it has always been more freedom and more liberty for light skinned people.

You can easily see the racism and xenophobia that the U.S. is built on when examining Border politics.

REPORT: DESTRUCTIVE DELAY: THE STATE OF IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT AND THE HUMAN COST OF POSTPONING REFORMS

Destructive Delay, written by Tania Unzueta and co-authored by B. Loewe, illuminates the inhumane interior Immigration and Customs Enforcement practices that continue unabated while the President postpones action and it highlights the human cost of the delay. The key findings shed light on an agency driven by one calculated mission, to meet a draconian deportation quota, regardless of the costs to public safety, institutional integrity, moral or constitutional considerations.

Through almost three dozen interviews with front-line organizers, legal experts, and people in deportation proceedings, Destructive Delay collects previously disparate and disconnected stories of the lived experience of ICE enforcement activity into a single document. The report provides real-life context for the rhetoric of the debate and gives an inside look into how immigration policy is actually working on the ground.

Molotov Cocktail Thrown Into Black Congressman’s Office

According to reports,  a Molotov cocktail was thrown through the office window of Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s (D-Mo.) Thursday morning. The Hill has the story:

The Kansas City Police and Kansas City Bomb and Arson Squad responded to the scene and completed an initial survey. No one was in the office when the object or objects were thrown. The cocktail did not explode, according to local reports.

Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Marcia Fudge (Ohio) asked for a speedy investigation and said the people responsible need to be punished to the “fullest extent of the law.”
“The Congressional Black Caucus strongly condemns this type of vandalism targeted at Congressman Cleaver, and denounces any act of violence towards Members of Congress,” she said in a statement. “This type of abhorrent behavior is the most ineffective means of voicing discontent or disagreement.”

Cleaver is currently in Washington and all of his offices are…

Obama draws flak over immigration reform delay

Insisting that factors beyond his control had created an untenable political situation, President Obama said Saturday that he would postpone his promised executive action to make drastic changes to the immigration system — a delay that leaves tens of thousands of immigrants open to deportation and millions more in limbo.

Republicans attempt to connect with Latino, Chinese, and Vietnamese Americans – but leave out Black, Native American, Indian Americans, and more

Republicans are attempting to reach out to people of color on their YouTube channel called “House Republicans”.

Look at the sentiment that people have for the video about respect for Chinese verses the video about respect for Hispanics, highlighted at the bottom right of each screen shot. (Screen shots taken on 8/24/2014)

To be fair, we can’t be sure if people are voting for the production quality of each video, the words chosen for each video, the people in the video, or the people that the video is about.

However, I was shocked by how many thumbs down are on the video about Hispanic Heritage month.
