Colorado School District Vows To Improve After Anti-Latino Discrimination Accusation

 

Authorities in a school district in Colorado said it vows to improve after it was accused of anti-Hispanic bias.

 

Between June 2008 and June 2012, “Hispanic students, teachers, and administrators experienced national origin harassment…”

 

Local authorities named Patricio “Pat” Sanchez to be the new superintendent.

 

Sanchez implemented numerous changes, including canceling the prohibition on the use of Spanish.

Obama Sent ICE to Their Doorsteps So They Are Coming To His

“Three years ago, our lives completely changed when Jose was handcuffed and taken from us to be deported to Mexico, a country he had not seen in over 3 decades. We did not think things could get any worse until March 30, 2011, when Jose was brutally beaten into a coma by Border Patrol agents. For 3 years we have been fighting for justice. The release of four names out of the eleven agents involved in the beating of my husband is not good enough! We want ALL names released! We want justice, accountability and transparency!”

 

Since the incident occurred three years ago, Shena Gutierrez has become an outspoken advocate in defense of her husband and other border families who have been affected by border brutality and abuse of power. On a few occasions, she has traveled to Washington D.C. to speak to members of Congress who have been made aware of the lack of accountability and oversight within the nation’s largest law enforcement agency.

 

Last June, she joined with the families of Anastasio Hernandez Rojas and Valeria Munique Tachiquin in a video asking their Senator to equip Border Patrol with body worn-cameras, which CBP has committed to, but has not yet implemented.  Last week, the request was once again raised, this time to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson.

Principal Fired For Trying To Keep Students From Speaking Spanish

 

“A principal who allegedly prohibited students from speaking Spanish will lose her job, the Texas press reports.

 

Administrators voted Monday night to discontinue a job contract for Amy Lacey, principal of Hempstead Middle School, who had been on paid administrative leave since December after reportedly using the intercom to tell students that speaking Spanish is forbidden on school grounds.

 

“When you start banning aspects of ethnicity or cultural identity, it sends the message that the child is not wanted,” Augstin Pinedo, director of the League of United Latin American Citizens Region 18 told the Houston Chronicle. ”

Border Patrol Agent Commits Atrocities While On Duty

 

“Texas Border Region: The Southern Border Communities Coalition (SBCC) expresses deep concern over recent events involving Border Patrol agent Esteban Manzanares who is reported to have assaulted three Honduran women immigrants, left two for dead, and then killed himself. We urge that the victims be protected, regardless of immigration status and receive fair treatment as survivors.

This incident is one more in a pattern of CBP abuses in our border communities. Last September, the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) released a report on Border Patrol use of force, which identified key problems with training. This followed revelations by the Government Accountability Office of significant incidence of misconduct within CBP. We demand that DHS conduct a thorough and transparent investigation of this incident, in parallel to independent review by external investigators and determine what policy and training enhancements are necessary.”
