AT&T Fires President Aaron Slator for Sending Racist Texts and Images, Faces $100M Employee Discrimination Suit

Telecom giant AT&T has fired an executive who was sued this week for allegedly using his work cell phone to keep and send racially offensive images.  Aaron Slator was fired as AT&T’s President of Content and Advertising Sales after employee Knoyme King, 50, accused him and other executives at AT&T of subjecting her to discriminatory behavior.

“There is no place for demeaning behavior within AT&T, and we regret the action was not taken earlier,” the company said in a statement confirming Slator’s dismissal.

The images at issue were found in Slator’s possession when he asked an assistant to transfer data from an old phone to a new one, the lawsuit said.

#JordanDavis Documentary “3 1/2 Minutes, Ten Bullets” Theatrical Release Dates Set for June

HBO took U.S. television rights to director Marc Silver’s “3 1/2 Minutes,” after its premiere in documentary competition at the Sundance Film Festival this year. And now Participant Media has announced a limited theatrical release of the acclaimed and timely feature documentary, which is now going to be titled “3 1/2 Minutes, Ten Bullets,” opening on June 19th, 2015 in New York, and then on June 26th, 2015 in Los Angeles.

The film chronicles the story of Jordan Davis, the unarmed black 17-year-old, who was shot to death at a Florida gas station by a white fellow customer, Michael David Dunn. “3 1/2 Minutes” explores the aftermath of Jordan’s tragic death, the latent and often unseen effects of racism, and the contradictions of the American criminal justice system.

Two South Carolina Police Officers Sentenced For Depriving Mentally Disabled Woman of Her Rights

Yesterday, federal Judge Bryan Harwell said that the bad actions of two officers ruined the good work of thousands of honest officers.
“This one incident can cause the public to lose respect and overshadow the good work, the hard work, done by thousands of officers every day,” Harwell said.
In October last year, Franklin Brown and Eric Walters pleaded guilty to deprivation of rights under color of law.  The DOJ took the case from the state and the officers reached the plea deals through federal prosecutors.
It happened in April 2013 in Marion, South Carolina. Eric Walters was patrolling when he saw Melissa Davis walking out of the yard of a home for sale. He asked her what she was doing, thinking she might have broken into the home. He tased Melissa because she did not quickly respond. While on the ground, Walters ordered Melissa to put her hands behind her back, but he shocked her 4 more times with his taser before she could respond.

The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) is supposed to maintain law and order in Baltimore, Maryland, a US city not far from Washington, DC. They are supposed to serve and protect and yet the president of the city council says they are more feared than drug dealers.


From 2010 to 2014, according to the ACLU, the BPD killed 31 people.

The National Guard was unleashed on Baltimore yesterday to quell unrest following the funeral of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, who died of injuries sustained in police custody. On 12 April, Gray was pinned to the pavement by officers before being loaded into a police van. When he was taken out of it his spine was ‘80 per cent severed’, according to the family’s lawyer. He spent a week in a coma and died on 19 April.

Freddie Gray

Freddie Gray (1989-2015) was a Black American man killed by police in Baltimore, Maryland. In West Baltimore, in fact, the very Black neighbourhood shown in “The Wire” (2002-2008). While the police investigate themselves, six police officers are on paid leave:

  • Lt. Brian Rice,
  • Sgt. Alicia White,
  • Officer William Porter,
  • Officer Garrett Miller,
  • Officer Edward Nero and
  • Officer Caesar Goodson Jr


On the morning of April 12th 2015, the police looked at Gray and he ran. A friend says Gray has a history of being beat up by police. The police went after him, on bicycles and on foot. They arrested him for running from police. Not a crime.
