NY Attorney General Asks to Probe Deaths by Police

New York state’s attorney general has asked the governor to authorize his office to investigate deaths at the hands of police following the public outcry over the death of Eric Garner on Staten Island.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, in a letter Monday to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, said that authority exists under New York law, has been used in the past, and is needed now because of the “crisis of confidence” in law enforcement.

Zemir Begic

Protesters, later on Sunday, tried to block Itaska Street where Begic was killed. On Monday 300 showed up, saying “Bosnian lives matter”. The police, in both cases, did not show up in riot gear with attack dogs. Instead they talked to protesters as if they were human beings, taking their concerns seriously. It can be done.

  1. We still need body cameras on all cops and in all cop cars. The video footage helped put Johannes Messerly behind bars for shooting Oscar Grant in the back as he was pinned down by police.
  2. We need an indictment team dissociated with the police – one from the United Nations for example.
  3. We need the police to have regular mental health screenings and regular bias tests

Mentally Ill Man Refuses to Take Medication So SWAT Shows Up and Kills Him

Midland, TX — Rosendo Gino Rodriquez, 49, was shot dead in an altercation Monday while Midland Police were conducting a routine welfare check. The Midland County mental health unit was conducting a regular welfare check at a home on the 2700 block of Washington Street, when things went sour.

Did the swat team, ask Rodriquez to toss the machete out the window? If not, why not?

Do U.S. swat teams not have patience to let the person fall asleep and then taze them if needed?

US police are quick to use deadly force when there is no need for it.

Tamir Rice’s family asks City of Cleveland, police to release video of fatal shooting

Tamir Rice (age 12)

Rice’s parents on Tuesday sent a letter through attorneys Tim Kucharski and David Malik to Mayor Frank Jackson and the Cleveland Division of Police asking for the release of the video, which police said depicts one of their rookie officers shoot Rice twice after he pulled a replica gun from his waistband.

Lawsuit claim: San Jose cop accused of rape sexually assaulted another woman just months earlier

SAN JOSE — The woman who prosecutors contend was raped by an on-duty San Jose police officer has made an explosive new accusation in a lawsuit, alleging that the cop had sexually assaulted “at least one other woman” just months earlier.

The lawsuit further alleges that the department knew or should have known about his conduct but failed to make sure he was accompanied by a second officer “at all times.”

Officer Geoffrey Graves’ lawyer did not respond to a request for comment. The woman’s attorney also did not respond to requests for more information to support the new accusations, which are described only briefly in the lawsuit.

Geoffrey Graves, a San Jose police officer, appears in court for his arraignment with attorney Darlene Bagley at Santa Clara County Hall of Justice in San Jose, Calif. on Monday, March 24, 2014. (Jim Gensheimer)

Earlier this year, Santa Clara County prosecutors charged Graves with raping an undocumented woman in September 2013, whom he first encountered during a disturbance call. The criminal complaint also charges Graves with two counts of felony domestic violence for allegedly injuring his then-girlfriend in incidents unrelated to the alleged rape.

Cop buys mom car seat instead of ticket – CNN Video

A Michigan police officer buys a needy mom a booster seat instead of issuing her a ticket. WXMI has more.

Source: www.cnn.com

Interesting.

This is not how people in the community of Ferguson are treated.

I’m calling out White privilege.

If this mom was not white is would go like this:

  1. Child Protective Services would take her child away.
  2. Mom would be ticketed for the infraction.
  3. Mom would not have money to pay ticket.
  4. Warrant for arrest of mom is issued.
  5. Mom is stopped for looking suspicious.
  6. Cop runs mom’s id and finds there is a warrant out for her un-paid fines.
  7. Mom is incarcerated until she can be bailed out.
  8. If she is ever released from jail she is billed for her food, housing and administrative costs.
Did you hear the words ‘tough on crime’ in this story? No.
Did you hear the words child endangerment? No.
I’m calling out double standards, hypocrisy and racism in the U.S. police force.

Beyond Dialogue: What We Can Do To Stop Police Violence

What can actually be done about implicit racial biases, especially in policing?

The policy is as simple as it is ingenious: Whenever possible, the police officer pursuing a suspect cannot be the same officer to apprehend a suspect or use force.”
