Solidarity with the UC workers who are in their fourth week of the biggest strike in US higher education history. Let me remind you: absent the workers in a university, there’s nothing. Workers not only deserve better wages & benefits, the quality of a UC education depends on it. pic.twitter.com/aKDyeH49lq

NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN continue to ignore the largest academic strike in US history, with only 100 secs of coverage in 3 weeks. In this same time frame, these networks managed to air 96 mins of coverage—34 individual segments—on Prince Harry and Prince William https://t.co/d7vQv1FNSy

“This is one of the most striking examples of a resurgence of the labor movement that we’ve seen,” said Harley Shaiken, an emeritus professor at the University of California-Berkeley who specializes in labor and the global economy. (1/2)

“We firmly believe that there is no higher education at the UC without these workers and their compensation and benefits need to reflect that. These budding scholars, scientists, and leaders should not have to struggle in order to meet their basic living expenses.” https://t.co/bJZC5dIjIX

For any of you that thought the academy was some sacrosanct space to idle about & contemplate the meaning of life, pls wake the fuck up. It is a workplace with bosses and workers. This flex is about power and their efforts to break the will of the workers on campus. https://t.co/Oa8TjAdZb3

I hope the New School strike wakes people up about how exploitive academia is. Charging $52,000 tuition for classes that they pay a contractor $5,000 to teach…

I fully support the New School strike. I was paid 4,000 to adjunct at @EugeneLang where the dean screamed at me for not teaching my class the way he ordered me to like I was his servant. No one should be treated the way New School treats its employees.

As we enter the 4th week of the New School strike, @mrheeloy reflects on her immigrant working-class roots and being a person of color in academia. Grateful to be in solidarity with so many passionate colleagues and students. Read the essay @theoffingmag: https://t.co/kEsgsJvY8O
