Bill Cosby

Bill Cosby (1937- ), a Black American comedian and television actor, is best known for “The Cosby Show” (1984-1992), a Black family sitcom where he played the beloved father, Dr Cliff Huxtable. It was a huge hit with both Blacks and Whites, arguably one of the best American television shows ever. But in 2015 it is being pulled from television: dozens of women have come forward accusing him of rape and sexual assault, reporting cases that took place between 1965 and 2008.

Attica Prison Guards Plead Guilty in 2011 Inmate Beating Case

By Tom Robbins

ATTICA, N.Y. — Three guards accused in the brutal beating of an inmate at the state prison here in 2011 each pleaded guilty on Monday to a single misdemeanor charge and agreed to quit their jobs in a last-minute deal that will avert a trial but spare them any jail time.

The case was the first time that any state corrections officers had been criminally charged with a nonsexual assault of an inmate, officials said.

The plea arrangement was announced in State Supreme Court in Wyoming County just as the guards were to have gone on trial on charges of gang assault, filing false reports and evidence tampering.

Instead, the three guards, Sgt. Sean Warner, 39, and Officers Keith Swack, 39, and Matthew Rademacher, 31, pleaded guilty to official misconduct, a misdemeanor. As part of the agreement, according to Norman Effman, one of the defense lawyers, the guards agreed to resign from their jobs to avoid jail time.

Lawsuit claim: San Jose cop accused of rape sexually assaulted another woman just months earlier

SAN JOSE — The woman who prosecutors contend was raped by an on-duty San Jose police officer has made an explosive new accusation in a lawsuit, alleging that the cop had sexually assaulted “at least one other woman” just months earlier.

The lawsuit further alleges that the department knew or should have known about his conduct but failed to make sure he was accompanied by a second officer “at all times.”

Officer Geoffrey Graves’ lawyer did not respond to a request for comment. The woman’s attorney also did not respond to requests for more information to support the new accusations, which are described only briefly in the lawsuit.

Geoffrey Graves, a San Jose police officer, appears in court for his arraignment with attorney Darlene Bagley at Santa Clara County Hall of Justice in San Jose, Calif. on Monday, March 24, 2014. (Jim Gensheimer)

Earlier this year, Santa Clara County prosecutors charged Graves with raping an undocumented woman in September 2013, whom he first encountered during a disturbance call. The criminal complaint also charges Graves with two counts of felony domestic violence for allegedly injuring his then-girlfriend in incidents unrelated to the alleged rape.

A Recent Spate of Cops Sexually Assaulting Multiple Women Leads Some To Question Just How Pervasive Such Practices Could Be

While the American public obsesses day after day about each and every scandalous act involving an athlete in the NFL, with even the most meticulous data being collected and analysed many times over, they seem to be less concerned about a similar, possibly more widespread, pattern of behavior by officers of the law, the same people entrusted with ensuring public safety and accountability. After several arrests occurred in the past month alone of police officers accused of sexually assaulting, kidnapping, or raping multiple women (four of them in Oklahoma), many observers are quite rightly inquiring about how common such crimes committed by law enforcement officers are. Unfortunately it is rather impossible to say for certain how common sexual assault by cops truly is because there exist no national database from which accurate statistics can be derived. In fact this nation has shown itself particularly inefficient when it comes to tallying or keeping track of any crimes committed by cops, let alone taking the further of holding them accountable. If a national debate can ensue around the issue of domestic battery and criminality in the National Football League, then surely it should be possible to have that same debate regarding issues of rape and sexual abuse in the nation’s police departments.

Police: child rape suspect on run after allegedly beating relative

(CNN) — A Massachusetts child rape suspect fled after cutting off his GPS monitoring bracelet, then — days later — returned home, beat and tied up his stepfather before stealing his gun and about 200 rounds of ammunition, police say.

Authorities announced on Facebook on September 20 — the same day he was spotted hundreds of miles away in Kentucky — that the Southbridge resident had fled and was wanted “for several outstanding felony arrest warrants.”
