Rocky Ford, CO – Shades Of Ferguson

Last Sunday, James Ashby killed 27-year old Jack Jacquez in Jacquez’s home. No one knows why Ashby came to Jack’s house. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Rocky Ford Police Department have remained silent. That might be due to James Ashby being a police officer.

The pattern here is that police go into Black and Brown communities and kill Black and Brown people.

To be clear

  • This girl is dead because the police thought it would be a good idea to burst into a FAMILY home with a flash-bang and guns blazing.
  • The police thought it was a good idea to burst into a BLACK FAMILY’s home with A&E film crew to document the criminality of a BLACK family member.
  • What happened is that the WHITE police officer has shown himself to the the OPPRESSOR that he is.
  • The whole damn SYSTEM has shown itself to be the Oppressive New Jim Crow system that it is.
  • Add to the list of the four little precious Black girls killed in Birmingham Alabama, another precious little Black girl – Aiyana Stanley-Jones killed by a racist society.

Teaching ‘The New Jim Crow’

Teaching Tolerance has teamed up with Michelle Alexander—author of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness—to offer educators two FREE webinars exploring mass incarceration in the United States and how to teach about it. Don’t miss out on these unique opportunities to hear Alexander speak about how mass incarceration represents a form of racialized social control, one that traps millions of people of color in a permanent undercaste and parallels an earlier system of racial control—Jim Crow.

Why All Communities Must Demand an End to Police Brutality

The images out of Ferguson, Missouri, these past two weeks have been shocking: tear gas blanketing suburban streets, law enforcement creating a war zone and defiant protesters braving it all. But it is important to remember that what started Ferguson’s fight is far too common: the police killing of an unarmed black teen.

African-Americans are the primary targets of law-enforcement profiling and violence, as the killings of Oscar GrantSean BellJonathan Ferrell and Eric Garner all attest. But during this past week, Latino, Asian-American, Arab-American and Muslim organizations have all released statements of solidarity informed by similar experiences with discriminatory law enforcement practices, as well as an urgency to collectively identify and implement solutions.

Why Are There No Black Men on Argentina’s Roster?

There are no black players on Argentina’s roster. Actually, there are hardly any black people left in Argentina period.

In colonial times, the proportion of Africans hovered around 50 per cent in half of Argentina’s provinces. General José de San Martín, the revolutionary who lead the charge to gain independence from Spanish rule, estimated that there were 400,000 Afro-Argentines who could be recruited to his armies. Black men made up 65 per cent of his troops.

This article reminds me of what Germany did to Jews; of what the U.S. did to Native Americans; and of what the U.S. continues to do to Black and Brown people in the U.S.

#Genocide

In 2010 Native American’s made up about 1% of the U.S. population. They used to make up 100% before Europeans arrived.

Black and Brown people are targeted in the U.S. by Mass Incarceration, the War on Drugs, New Jim Crow, and Planned Parenthood Centers.

Planned Parenthood Centers are opened in Black and Brown communities to offer free birth control and abortions.

#PopulationControl

When the War on Drugs removes Black and Brown people from the community, that eliminates their ability to procreate while they are incarcerated. When they are released, they have a felony conviction and can’t get a decent job to support raising a family.
