Milwaukee ex-officer not charged in shooting mentally ill Black man 14 times

12-22-2014

“MILWAUKEE — A white Milwaukee police officer fired after killing a mentally ill black man in April won’t face criminal charges, the top county prosecutor said Monday, a decision that prompted the U.S. attorney to later announce a federal investigation of the incident.”

Manney shot Hamilton, 31, after responding to a call of a man sleeping in a downtown park. Manney said Hamilton resisted when he tried to frisk him. The two exchanged punches before Hamilton got hold of Manney’s baton and hit him on the neck, the former officer has said. Manney then shot Hamilton 14 times.

Flynn fired Manney in October. He said then that Manney correctly identified Hamilton as mentally ill but ignored department policy and treated him as a criminal by frisking him.”

High school student dragged to swimming pool by teacher speaks out

Garcia’s attorney says Peterson should not have put a hand on the girl. The video shows he even asks other students to help him: “somebody tickle her,” he is heard saying in the 95-second video.

“No means no and stop means stop. This isn’t a situation where she’s attacking a teacher and he’s defending himself. When a woman or a 14-year-old girl says no, it means no,” he said.

If I find a teacher treating my child like that – there will be hell to pay.

Andrew Hawkins

Andrew Hawkins (1986- ), an American football player, is a wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns. Like other Black sports figures in the US in the past few weeks, he protested against police brutality. On Sunday December 14th 2014 he walked out onto the field wearing a shirt that said:
“Justice for Tamir Rice and John Crawford III”
Tamir Rice, age 12, was shot dead by police in November; John Crawford, age 28, in August. In both cases:

  1. White police officers rush up on a Black male with an airgun and shoot him down.
  2. The police investigate themselves.
  3. A grand jury makes a decision whether to put the police officers on trial.

In the Crawford case the grand jury has already said there will be no trial.
