Spike Lee w/ Bobby Rivers: “4 Little Girls”

“On WNYW’s morning news show, Bobby Rivers interviewed filmmaker Spike Lee for the release of his first documentary, “4 Little Girls.” Lee’s 1997 feature covers a racial hate crime in September 1963 that made international headlines.

Four children were killed in an Alabama church bombing two weeks after Dr. Martin Luther King’s historic March on Washington.”

Difference Between Psychopath & Sociopath

Dr. Drew explains the differences in regards to Casey Anthony.

Community Village‘s insight:

Do you know any people who fit into these categories?

A lot of men seem to have a predisposition to use violence to “solve” problems.

Many men lean toward sociopathic behavior. Isn’t it men who invented chemical weapons, nuclear bombs, napalm (sticky fire), machine guns.

What kind of person in their right mind would invent that stuff?

The Fence

The Fence

The Fence

Examines the impact of the controversial fence along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The whole movie is available through HBO or HBO Go.
Apple TV now has access to HBO Go.

In this short documentary they show

  • How migrants cross under and over the wall
  • How many U.S. tax dollars are spent on the wall
  • Up to the making of the movie, not one U.S. terrorist arrived through the U.S. – Mexico border
  • The Fence does not cover the whole U.S. Mexico border region
  • The Fence covers enough of the border so that many walk around the fence and die in the dessert
  • How animals migration paths are blocked
  • Approximately 2 people die per day crossing through the dessert areas of the U.S.

We are currently in the process of reconstructing ourselves as independent Nican Tlaca people with our own Nican Tlaca Civilization — forever free of European colonialism.”

Smiley & West | Stanley Aronowitz, Norm Stamper, and Remembering Birmingham

Smiley-and-West-PRI-podcast

Smiley-and-West-PRI

Former Seattle police chief Norm Stamper explains why he now speaks out against drones, stop-and-frisk, and the war on drugs. West speaks with one of his mentors, CUNY Graduate Center professor Stanley Aronowitz. Birmingham terrorism victim Carolyn McKinstry recalls the tragic day when Christian extremists from the KKK killed four little girls in the 16th Street Baptist Church. And, Theodore Debro tells us how he witnessed Dr. Martin Luther King react to the bombing during his sermon in Atlanta.

I was amazed to hear Norm Stamper say that even though he knew the police could be overly aggressive, that after he joined the police force – he was sucked into the culture and became a gleeful abuser of the people that he was hired to serve.

“…plastic surgeons profit from racist standards of beauty…”

Community Village‘s insight:

In the U.S. it seems to be standard for everyone to get braces – unless they already have perfect teeth.

TO FAST FOOD CEOS: YOUR WORKERS SHOULDN’T NEED FOOD STAMPS (petition)

I know I’ve posted quite a few petitions about fast food workers and the minimum wage. I do so because I think it’s so important that people who work hard get treated with respect and dignit…

Community Village‘s insight:

If companies do not pay their workers fairly, then us, the tax payers, will make up the difference in their salary by subsidizing the cost of their grocery bill with food stamps and the cost of their health care bill with — subsidized health care payments.

It seems like a popular business model in the U.S. is to pay your emplyees so low that the government picks up part of the cost of taking care of the emloyee’s basic needs.

Congress’ border efforts are bunk, say border sheriffs

The bill passed by the Senate in July attempts to solve the problem of illegal immigration with a $46 billion “border surge,” adding 20,000 new Border Patrol agents, and $3 billion in new monitoring technology. But sheriffs policing the border say that misses the mark.”

Community Village‘s insight:

My tax dollars at ‘work’ again, propping up xenophobia.

On the positive side though, this might reduce the number of deaths in the desert.
