LAPD kills unarmed #BrendonGlenn at Venice Beach

Los Angeles (CNN)The fatal shooting of an unarmed man this week by Los Angeles police is drawing controversy after the police chief quickly questioned whether the killing was justified.

“Any time an unarmed person is shot by a Los Angeles police officer, it takes extraordinary circumstances to justify that, and I have not seen those extraordinary circumstances at this point,” Police Chief Charlie Beck said Wednesday.

Beck made that remark after viewing a videotape of the incident, which occurred Tuesday night near Venice Beach. Police aren’t releasing the video, Beck said.

The victim was identified as Brendon K. Glenn, 29, and an autopsy is pending, said Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Deadly LAPD shooting of homeless man is caught on video

By Gale Halland and Jack Dolan

In a dramatic confrontation caught on video, Los Angeles police shot and killed a homeless man in the heart of downtown’s bustling skid row Sunday.

A video of the incident posted on Facebook (contains foul language) shows a group of officers getting into a scuffle with a man standing on a sidewalk littered with tents and other debris.

During the struggle, one officer drops his nightstick, which is picked up by a woman on the street. Two officers handcuff the woman.

The man continues to scuffle with four of the officers, even after he’s wrestled to the ground. What appears to be one of the officers is heard saying “Drop the gun. Drop the gun.”

Then, at least one of the officers opens fire on the man, who remained on the ground with at least two officers near him.

Five gunshots are heard on the recording.

Mentall ill Ezell Ford (age 25) Autopsy Shows He Was Shot Three Times, Once In The Back

http://thisisthewilderness.com/involvement/support-us/ LOS ANGELES — The official autopsy report for Ezell Ford, an São Lourenço do Sul unarmed, mentally ill black man shot to death by Los Angeles police in August, was released by the county coroner’s office Monday after the Los Angeles Police Department lifted an investigative hold that had blocked the report from public view for over four months.

The coroner’s investigation ruled Ford’s death a homicide by multiple gunshot wounds.

Ford, 25, was killed by LAPD officers Sharlton Wampler and Antonio Villegas, both on gang enforcement detail, shortly after 8 p.m. on Aug. 11 in the Florence neighborhood of South LA. The report provides the first detailed account from authorities of his injuries.

According to the autopsy report, Ford was shot three times, resulting in two fatal wounds and one nonfatal.

The skin around the fatal wound in Ford’s back had a “muzzle imprint,” which suggests that the shot was taken at close range. The second fatal wound was in Ford’s side abdomen. A third wound, ruled nonfatal by the coroner’s investigation, was on his right arm.
